Spring Racing Look from Witchery

I headed out to Caulfield two weekends ago for the beginning of a Melbourne institution – the Spring Racing Carnival. We were blessed with gorgeous weather – 22 and fine – so a sundress was an absolute must. I picked up the majority of my outfit from Witchery:

Silk Drape Front Tank Dress – $189.95

Sofia Pin Stripe Sunnies – $29.95 (on sale)

Rachel High Heel Platforms – $169.95

I went out at lunchtime in search of a purse, finding this cute cream ruffled clutch at Forever New for only $39.95…

…and my boss was kind enough to lend me this gorgeous fascinator!

TIP: If you’re anything like me, you have a wardrobe full of hats and fascinators, none of which you would consider wearing twice. Instead of purchasing yet another, why don’t you swap with a friend or colleague?

This year’s trackside trends were bright floral prints and bold block colour (very popular given the abundance of sunshine), as well as nude tones and draping (see below for Megan Gale’s take on nude – stunning!). Fascinators are still very much in vogue – the bigger and brighter, the better! – as are ladylike accessories such as lace gloves and pearl necklaces.

New to Spring Racing? Here’s a short list of my do’s and don’ts…

DO

  • Bring a cover-up in case of cold weather – I recommend a tailored blazer.
  • Protect your feet! Wear comfortable shoes (wedges, heels with a platform), have plenty of bandaids on hand and pack a pair of flats for the walk back to the train station.
  • Wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water – a long day feels even worse when you have sunstroke!
  • Drink and gamble responsibly!

DON’T
